Victoria Dodson Obituary

Mrs. Victoria Joan Dodson, age 96, born in Tire Hill PA, daughter of Frank and Catherine Starvis. Preceded in death by parents, Frank and Katherine Starvis, husband Vic Gatling, and all of her brothers and sisters, Mike, John, Joseph, Peter, Walter, Andrew, Stanley, Marie, Sophie Heckman, Ann Pentz, Stella Plesky, Helen Stewart. Survived by these children, Vic H., husband of former Patricia Sycz, Bel Air Maryland, Terri M, wife of Harry Santichen, Johnstown; John P, New York, Joseph P, husband of former Debbie Feathers, Johnstown; and David M, Johnstown; and grandchildren, Melissa, wife of Patrick Schooley, Victor, husband of Leila Dongala, Mark, husband of Kayleigh Grove, Michelle, wife of Stephen Lauer, Eric, Nicole, Daniel, Jake, husband of Yakira Schroll, Sarah, wife of Justin McKool, Ian, Cassidy, and William; great grandchildren, Pierce, Sophie, Emma, Hannah, Julia, Nicholas, Marianna, Isabella, Gemma, Charlotte, Palmer, Lucia, and Rosaleigh. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Victoria graduated from Conemaugh Township High School in 1942, and based on her academic achievement and high score on the civil service test she immediately accepted a position working as an administrative assistant at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.. Victoria met and married Vic G Dodson in D.C., when Vic returned from WWII after serving in combat with the 11th Airborne Division. Vicki gave birth to their first son in DC in 1950, and the family moved to Johnstown in 1955, where they had one daughter and three more sons over the next 14 years. Since 1968, Victoria and Vic lived in Moxham. She has been a member of St. Patrick’s and St. Benedict’s Churches, and the Holy Name Society. Vicki worked at Mercy Hospital. She loved being active with her children, including traveling on vacations to Chincoteague, Ocean City, and Florida. Victoria lived in her home in Moxham until she moved to Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries Home on Goucher Street in March 2019 , until the Lord called her to her final home on January 7, 2023. Friends will be received Wednesday, January 11th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Moskal & Kennedy Funeral Home, Ohio Street and Highland Avenue, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12th at St. Benedict’s Church, with celebrant Fr.
