Smith, (Rheel), Dorothy R. “DOT”, 90, of Johnstown, passed away June 9, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center. Born December 5, 1931 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Lloyd W. and Anna (Pekera) Rheel. Preceded in death by husband, Charles Robert Smith, Sr. Preceded in death by brother, Raymond Rheel; sister, Gloria (Rheel) Saitta; sister in law, Ruth Ann Rheel; brother in laws, Tom Kohler and Tony Saitta. Survived by loving sons, Charles Robert Jr. and Barry and Jo Anne (DeBarto) Smith; granddaughters, Michele married to Matthew Yagodich; and Danielle Rish; brothers, Bob Rheel and John Rheel married to Debbie; sisters, Claudette married to Meade Botteicher; Carol Rheel; Pat Kohler; Diane Spengler and Evelyn married to Jim Kassander; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; also survived by dear friends, Eleanor Beltz and Herman Lux. Dot was a graduate of Dale High School and loved her home and friends in Moxham. Dot loved sports, in her younger years she played for the Canadian Fur women’s basketball team in Dale Boro and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. She was an avid gardener always tending to her yard and had a devotion to her loving family. Dot worked at various places in her life, Kay Artley, Best Form, Toy Ladies, Sani-Dairy and retired from K-Mart. She was a faithful lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Downtown Johnstown, where she served her church volunteering in various capacities. Family will receive friends Monday, June 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. celebration of life service at Zion Lutheran Church, Downtown Johnstown, Rev. Michael Van Dyke, officiating. Interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center, 600 Somerset Ave. Windber, PA 15963, in her memory.
